Heritage Automotive Limited – A Potted History

Heritage Automotive Limited was formed on 16 May 1996, starting out as the franchisee for Volkswagen and Audi for Salisbury, with just 18 employees.

In July of the same year we acquired the assets of Anthony Ince (Weston) Limited and were appointed the Volkswagen franchisee for Weston Super Mare.

In September 1998 we embarked on a major redevelopment exercise at Salisbury, which entailed knocking down the Bodyshop and building a dedicated Audi facility which dovetailed into a refurbished dedicated Volkswagen facility.

Almost a year later in August 1999 contractors started work on the Company’s ambitious plan to build a brand new Volkswagen facility on a green-field site at Weston Super Mare, which was completed in April 2000.

September 2003 saw Heritage Automotive acquire the Volkswagen Passenger Car and Commercial Vehicle franchises for Bristol. This major expansion heralded a significant broadening of business interests for us, as it meant a first foray into the Fleet, Volkswagen Luxury Car, Trade Parts, and Commercial Vehicle arenas.

Three years on in August 2006 we acquired The Oval Motor Company Limited.  Based in Westbury, Wiltshire the acquisition achieved three distinct objectives; firstly to further dominate the south-west of England for Volkswagen Passenger Cars and Commercial Vehicles by closing another ownership gap between Salisbury and Bristol; secondly to acquire a significant Bodyshop from which to manage and grow the existing Salisbury Bodyshop facility; and thirdly, to broaden the Group’s customer offering by entering the volume car market through representing the Peugeot brand.

August 2008 saw us acquire the assets of Rangers of Salisbury, providing us with a second point of representation for the Peugeot brand in the Wiltshire area.

We currently employ some 380 people, sell over 3,100 new vehicles, 2,700 used vehicles every year and spend over 150,000 hours per year maintaining our customers’ vehicles.

We offer customers the highest standard of sales advice, customer service and after sales care throughout Wiltshire, Bristol and North Somerset.
